This Week's Share
There wasn't a letter from Ted this week—he's no doubt taking a well-earned break after the weekend's festivities at the farm!
Based on his most recent note in last week's issue of The Beet, we can expect more of the same—tomatoes, sweet peppers, cabbage, etc—but perhaps some additional variety in the form of beans, carrots, and greens. And he noted that chiles and cilantro will also be coming soon.
Windflower Farm Weekend
Many thanks to Ted and all his team for their hard work in putting together another beautiful weekend at Windflower Farm!
CSA Core member Stephen Narloch attended this year's event, and sent the beautiful photo above of the barn after dinner. Were you there too? We'd love to hear your stories and impressions, and see your photographs from the weekend! Get in touch by writing to newsletter@clintonhillcsa.org.
Reminder: BYOB!!!
A mid-season reminder from CSA Core Distribution Manager Rachel Maingot: please bring bags with you to the weekly pick-up!
If you have spare plastic bags at home, please bring them along too, to donate to any of your fellow members who may have forgotten theirs. Thank you!
Coming Soon: Cookbook Swap
The great CHCSA cookbook swap begins next week! Here's what you need to know:
- At every pick-up during September, we'll be running a swap table
- Bring cookbooks you no longer want, and swap them for new ones to freshen up your recipe circulation!
- As well as cookbooks, we're also happy to receive general food-related books, books on health, and parenting books
- You don't have to bring a book to take a book - everyone is welcome to dip in to the selection
- Anyone who donates a book is eligible to enter a lottery for a $10 gift card at Greenlight Books!
This is a great opportunity to share your enthusiasm for good food and cooking with your fellow CSA members. So think carefully about what you're ready to pass on to an enthusiastic new owner, and dream big about what might be waiting for you at the swap table!
Something Fishy
Our friends at Lewis Waite Farm are offering a 3-month fish share in partnership with Black River Foods and Captain Marsden's. The fish come from the waters off New England, and are caught by a consortium practicing sustainable fishing.
- Each share contains 3-4 lbs of North Atlantic Whitefish, for instance Atlantic Cod Scrod, Haddock, Hake, Monkfish, and Pollock
- These come frozen, in ~8 oz fillets
- 2 species in each share
- Shares delivered 1/month to your pickup site
- All the boats are family owned and operated
- All use sustainable fishing practices (the group is working on their certification)
Each share is $131. Visit their website to learn more and place an order! But act quickly: the deadline for orders is September 5.
